In this post we have mentioned Top 10 MBA Colleges in India. This ranking is in very general terms for someone who is not sure which particular stream they want to enter. For specific streams, certain colleges may be better than others. At the end of this article, I will also tell you which specific college you should join based on your chosen stream.
There are certain colleges that are even better than IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Kolkata if you consider the respective stream in which they have expertise. I will discuss this after completing the top 10 rankings.
Top 3 MBA Colleges in India
The top three MBA colleges in India are:
- IIM Ahmedabad
- IIM Bangalore
- IIM Kolkata
IIM Ahmedabad comes on the top is not due to bias, but because of its great reputation. The first dream college of every indian for MBA, that comes to mind is IIM Ahmedabad. It has an excellent reputation in both social and professional value.
In terms of opportunities, IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Kolkata offer very similar prospects. All kinds of firms visit all three campuses, which is why many students also choose IIM Bangalore or Kolkata over Ahmedabad. However, in my opinion, I would choose IIM Ahmedabad first, then Bangalore, and finally Kolkata.
4th – ISB Hyderabad
There is often controversy over ranks 4 to 7, as different students may have different preferences. In my opinion, ISB Hyderabad takes the fourth position. Though it was established later, the opportunities it provides are comparable to IIM ABC, especially in Product Management. If you have several years of work experience, ISB is an excellent choice, sometimes even better than IIM ABC.
5th – FMS Delhi
Many students ask why FMS Delhi is not ranked above IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, or Kolkata, considering its low fees of 2 lakhs and an average package of 34 lakhs. The reason is that I value campus life a lot, which FMS lacks. Moreover, education should not be judged only on return on investment for one year—it should be considered over a 30-year career. IIM ABC holds more long-term value than an FMS degree.
6th – IIM Lucknow
IIM Lucknow used to be my fourth choice when I was preparing for CAT. However, after working in the industry, I see no significant difference between FMS and IIM Lucknow in terms of professional value. While IIM Lucknow carries the IIM tag, professionals consider both colleges equally.
7th – XLRI Jamshedpur
XLRI Jamshedpur is one of the underrated college because it is more well-known in Eastern India than in the West or South. It is one of the best MBA colleges in India, especially for HR programs, which are the best in the country. Its Business Management (BM) program is also outstanding.
8th – IIM Kozhikode
Unanimously, IIM Kozhikode takes the eighth position. It has made significant progress in recent years and is almost at the level of IIM Lucknow in terms of opportunities and student quality.
9th and 10th – IIM Indore, SPJIMR, and MDI Gurgaon
The 9th and 10th positions are tricky and depend on individual preferences. You can choose from:
- IIM Indore (Great opportunities, but large batch size, so top 25% get the best offers)
- SPJIMR Mumbai (Best for Finance)
- MDI Gurgaon (Best for Sales and Marketing)
